Two similar pairs of18th century Irish silver candlesticks with removeable repoussé sconces above barrel shaped sockets, baluster and fluted stems on indented repoussé square shaped bases. Dublin hallmarks circa 1755. 26.5cm high approx. 90.7 troy oz approx. Each 22 troy oz approx. (4) (B.P. 21% + VAT)
Hallmarks are rubbed in places, general ware to the sticks, they have a family crest stamped to each corner appear to be a stag's head, consigned from a local family with Irish connections. Only two sconces are marked, all four bases have three hallmarks including an illegible maker's mark. Evidence of old repairs to inner basses of two sticks. General wear, marks and nicks commensurate with age.
